THANK GOD...

Greetings from Dehes Ministries.

We would like to take this opportunity to announce the building of the 14th church in Tumbang Mirah, a small village close to Tumbang Samba in Katingan. It is a new community of believers which has been growing steadily in the last 2 years. Praise the Lord, that we are called to serve our Lord Jesus in this new location.

I have been asked on many occasions why I always count and mention the number of churches and projects which Dehes Ministries have completed over the past 20 years. Well, for a start, numbers are important to God because He has a whole book called Numbers in His written Word. For us, numbers matter because every number represents a name and every name has a story and every story matters to God. The story matters to God because it represents His Presence, His work and His miracles which we continue to witness endlessly as we serve Him. That is precious and on that note, I will keep counting the numbers one by one and to God be all the glory!

In this newsletter, I would like to start with the scripture in 2 Corinthians 9:10-12: “For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, He will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.”

Allow me to share this with you: whenever I travel in Katingan where we serve our Lord Jesus, people are always thanking God because you. Just pause for a moment and think about this. People are thanking God, just as what the scripture says, because we take your gifts of generosity to those who need them!

Let me share with you some of the reasons why people are thanking God for you and there are going to be some mention of numbers…

People are thanking God because we are spreading the Word. In the last 6 months, besides the regular church services which are ongoing every week, we held at least 4 main outreach events in our church the “Gateway of Grace” in Kereng Humbang. In the “Healing Movement Crusade”, we had 497 participants; in the “Borneo Tribal Revival Conference”, we had 380 participants and in our inaugural “Youth Camp: Climbing Higher”, we had about 380 participants. In all of these events, we are spreading the Word and proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As a result, we are witnessing an exponential growth in the number of people who are receiving salvation and accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior. People are thanking God because through these events, their lives are touched by God and their destiny are changed for eternity.

In the Children’s Ministry which we started in November 2018, the team has so far conducted 10 outreach events in these villages all around Katingan: Tumbang Kaman, Tumbang Terusan, Habuhus, Tumbang Baraio, Pengkalan Bun, Nangga Bulik, Tapin Bini, Panopa, Mengkalong and Kudangan. To date, we have spread the Word of God to approximately 1,400 young school age students in those villages. We are sowing seeds and sowing plenty of them because we know one day, these seeds will return a harvest of souls which will please our Lord Jesus Christ.

People are thanking God because we are equipping the churches. God is empowering us to equip His churches and His people. Through our humble Bible school, we are giving young people the opportunity to study the Word of God and to be trained to be God’s leaders and workers for the future. The students carry out their regular outreach activities as part of their coursework as well as serve in the churches which we have planted. They are trained to serve in every aspects of church life in the Bible school. When we run major outreach events in the campsite, they are the force and manpower on the ground i.e. they are there to help to organize and set-up, then to lead the worship or minister during the altar call, and then to help with the cleaning up after the event. They are truly, God’s future workforce in our ministry for Katingan. In addition to being involved in all of the ongoing activities, there is currently a group of 8 students who are studying for their Masters in Theology at our campus and they are fully sponsored by Dehes Ministries.

People are also thanking God because we are meeting needs. We, who are the Body of Christ, are meeting the needs of the people. Since we started the medical clinic about 8 years ago, we have served approximately 15,000 people from the local communities. These patients receive medical treatments and medications at heavily subsidized costs at our expense. About 95% of the clinic’s patients are people of other faith, yet they embrace and accept our fellowship. This community support is essential to the work we do for God in that region and we praise God for this window of opportunity to serve Him there.

From the local church at Kereng Humbang, we carry out “Aksi Memberi Makan” where we regularly provide food to 200-300 people; the “Pelayanan Gereja” ministers to 30-60 inmates during each visit; the “Pelayanan orang-orang sakit di Rumah Sakit Kasongan” ministers to 5-15 people in each visit; and a new outreach activity “Rumah Baca” where 40-65 young children between the age 3-15 have registered to seek help to learn to read will commence shortly. In April, we also organized a seminar on “Penanggulangan Narkoba dan Pengunaan Gadget pada Anak” in collaboration with the local government (“Pemerintah Kapubaten”) of Katingan to teach a gathering of government officials and parent groups on that subject.

By the grace and mercy of God, we are truly impacting the communities and making a difference to people’s lives in Katingan.

Through your commitment and generosity to give, we are able to build the facilities and campsite at Kereng Humbang and these amenities are now being used for outreach events for the glory of God. Through your financial support, we are able to provide accommodation and food and transportation whenever these are needed for God’s work. Your generosity has also enabled us to educate and equip young people who are passionate to serve God in the future. Day in and day out, our pastors and workers who are in the frontline in the mission fields are working hard to sow seeds and win souls for Jesus.

It is an incredible and awesome privilege to be given this opportunity to serve God in this capacity. Feel it and embrace it because when we take your gifts to the people who need them, they thank God for you! You may not realize it but you are precious because you have a heart for God’s work.

We believe it is more blessed to give than to receive, and so by the grace and mercy of God, with your continued financial support, we have been able to sow generously to the work of God in Katingan.

To all of you who have been walking faithfully with us in this journey of faith for many years, I thank God for you. Thank you for your generosity and passion for reaching the lost and winning souls for Jesus.

I pray that the Word in 2 Corinthians 9:10-12 will be a reality in your life – that our God will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. And you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous – towards Him.

God bless you all.

Blessings always,
Ev Sebastian
